Tableau de Famille

NATAN will be present at Art Brussels 2026, marking the 42nd edition of the fair, under the banner of Le Salon by NATAN. On this occasion, they present Tableau de Famille, a collaboration with Belgian painter Mattias De Leeuw represented by Galerie Sofie Van de Velde

Mattias De Leeuw was invited to work for one month in the atelier of the Belgian fashion house Natan. To fully grasp the atmosphere of the house, he spent long days there painting and observing the studio with his camera. From these images and impressions, De Leeuw turned his attention to the life within the atelier: the people who work there, the concentration of the making process, and the quiet moments in between. His paintings therefore do not only show clothing, but a world in which creation, attention and human presence come together.

As in his earlier work, De Leeuw approaches the figure in a light and free manner. With a technique that moves between painting and drawing, using diluted paint, bright colours and direct gestures on paper and canvas, he creates images that evoke an atmosphere rather than depict an exact reality. Figures, spaces and moments from the atelier are thus translated into a world of colour, rhythm and intuition.

From this immersion emerged a series of works capturing life within the Maison—the people, the making process, and the quiet moments in between.

This collaboration will be on view during Art Brussels within Le Salon by NATAN, conceived as a space for contemplation and encounter around the works.

Part of the proceeds from this selection will be donated to KickCancer and will be officially handed over to the organisation during the fair.
