With TOXIC MATTER, CC Strombeek presents the first solo exhibition in Belgium by Estonian artist Katja Novitskova. Her work explores how ecology and technology, as well as the natural and digital worlds, are interconnected. For this exhibition, the artist delves into the world of the sea and oceans. Using its widespread pollution by microplastics as a starting point, the project explores the gradients between toxicity and life in today’s society. At the same time, the exhibition continues the artist’s research into how technology reshapes our relationship with nature, particularly through recording, collecting, and mapping it.
