‘El Pulso del Agua’ traces the painting expeditions of Belgian artist Nils Verkaeren across Colombia, where he worked directly within remote landscapes shaped by rivers, climate and movement. Canvases carried through jungle, rivers, and mountains become physical records of the journey. The book is published by Hopper&Fuchs and will be presented in conversation with publisher/curator Bruno Devos.
About the Speakers:
Nils Verkaeren
Nils Verkaerenis a Belgian painter (1980) whose work explores landscape through direct immersion and travel. His practice often unfolds outside the studio, in remote environments where climate, terrain and movement become part of the painting process. Through expeditions and on-site work, he investigates how place, time, and physical conditions shape both the image and the act of painting. His projectsfrequentlycombine painting, travelnarrativeand artistic research.
Bruno Devos
Bruno Devos is a Belgian publisher and maker of art books, based in Antwerp. With over thirty years of experience in publishing and printing, he guides artists in creating high-quality art books and photobooks. He is the founder of HOPPER&FUCHS, an independent publishing house established in 2019, known for its internationally recognized portfolio of art publications, all printed in Belgium. In addition to publishing, Devos curates contemporary art and photography exhibitions and serves as a jury member and guest lecturer at art schools. His books are presented globally at fairs and institutions such as Centre Pompidou, WIELS and FOMU.
